Hypnotherapy comprises of three main categories; 1. Cognitive Hypnotherapy Cognitive hypnotherapy incorporates hypnosis to ensure that the subconscious is in check with the conscious and its understanding of the current reality. The technique draws influence from the client’s personal goals, values and needs. Cognitive hypnotherapy can be used for many concerns but is particularly helpful for phobias and anxiety. 2. Ericksonian Hypnotherapy Ericksonian hypnotherapy involves the active participation and the involvement of the client to achieve self-identified therapeutic goals. Ericksonian hypnotherapy believes that clients have the capacity to solve their own issues through exploration and vagueness. It comprises of techniques of indirect suggestion and storytelling to alter behaviour. 3. Psychodynamic Hypnotherapy Psychodynamic Hypnotherapy is a more traditional form of hypnotherapy. It focuses on dealing with past issues and the achievement of therapeutic goals is facilitated by the hypnotherapist. Psychodynamic Hypnotherapy can be used to look at more deep-seated issues and may be helpful for those who feel they would benefit from more intensive work. Hypnotherapy in itself can be differentiated into many practices. If you have given hypnotherapy a try before and felt that it may not be for you, it may be due to the unsuitable delivery method of hypnotherapy.
